Back in Ulm. The trip from Villach was supposed to be one train—I had picked
Villach because it was a transfer point between Ljubljana and Ulm. However,
track work disrupted train service, so there was a bus replacement from Villach
to Bischofshaven. And then there was some disruption to the ICE. My train was
still running, but it was not stopping at Ulm. So I had to get off and take a
local.
Ulm is growing and changing. There is a new streetcar line, new hotels, and a
new viewing tower over the river. I arrived on the opening day of Cinnamood,
whose fat and sugar bombs would look at home in the United States. The train
station building was closed for new construction. The underground passage in
front of the train station has been expanded and has new stores, a large
supermarket, and an Asian supermarket. There is new scaffolding around the
Münster—there was before, but this is new different scaffolding. Maybe I will
ask the tourist office to let me know when there will be a window of time when
you can see the Münster without scaffolding.
I spent a lot of my time in Ulm matching photos to images in the board game
UlmUlm.
